About Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies
Saving Lives. Guiding Futures. Inspiring Hope. Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Broward County’s mission is to reduce infant deaths by strengthening families through a comprehensive approach to prenatal care, parenting, education and support services. The goal is for babies to be born healthy and celebrate the first years of their life in a caring and safe environment. The objectives include improving access to health care, providing health education and family support, increasing public awareness of healthy behaviors, and helping parents and professionals understand how to prevent infant deaths and improve maternal/child health. The agency serves more than 3,000 unduplicated individuals each year.
Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Broward County, Inc. (HMHB/Broward) was formed in 1987 in response to a high rate of infant mortality in Broward County, Florida. For twenty-five years, the agency has developed and implemented innovative programs and services for low-income pregnant and parenting families, focusing on zip codes at high risk of infant death, poor maternal/child health, and child endangerment.
A Message from our Executive Director
Each and every day, we are grateful for the opportunity we have to help the women, children and families in our community. We work tirelessly to ensure our clients receive the knowledge and resources they require, thereby empowering them to live the best life they can.
Thanks to the dedicated Board of Directors and staff of HMHB of Broward, hundreds of babies are born with a healthy start to life; women battling maternal depression received counseling to effectively nurture and bond with their baby; children are spared from abuse and neglect because their parents are taught effective parenting and relationship building skills; and most importantly, we continued to save the lives of our little ones by reducing the risks of prematurity and addressing issues of preventable infant death. And in the unfortunate circumstances where babies’ lives are cut short, we were there to help them with burial expenses and emotional support for the family.
The work we do is vital to the success of our home – Broward County. Home is what you make of it and we are making it the best it can be for you and your neighbors.
Wishing you and your family all the best,
